Syria War New Regime

Turkey and Syria Agree on New Energy Agreement

Turkey will increase energy exports to Syria to help the country's new regime get its infrastructure in order, which was heavily damaged by the fighting that took place at the end of last year, AFP reports.

Turkish Energy Minister Arsparslan Bayraktar met with his Syrian counterpart Mohammad al-Bashir on Thursday, where they agreed that Turkey will triple its exports.

The country will also "shortly" start delivering gas to the cities of Aleppo and Homs. This is just over two billion cubic meters of fossil gas, according to Bayraktar.

Minister: Wants to improve the living conditions of Syrians

The new energy agreement between Turkey and Syria will improve the standard of living for the people of Syria. This was agreed upon by the countries' energy ministers Alparslan Bayraktar and Mohammed al-Bashir when they met on Thursday.

According to the agreement, Turkey will, among other things, export more electricity and fossil gas to Syria. According to Bayraktar, the new agreement will lead to an increase in the country's electricity supply to more than ten hours per day.

Turkey is ready to "help improve the living conditions of Syrians," Bayraktar said, according to AFP.
