Trump's USA Crypto Market
Crypto Dinner Price Tag: $394 Million
Today, 220 winners from Donald Trump's crypto competition are traveling to Washington, D.C. to have dinner with the president. The price tag? Over $1 million on average, reports NBC News.
The competition was that the 220 people with the most holdings in Trump's own cryptocurrency, at a specific time, were given a seat at the dinner. In total, they spent $394 million on the currency. But the amount varied, those who put in the most spent $10 million and those who put in at least $100,000. The average winner bought crypto for $1.7 million, writes NBC.
For most officials in the United States, such a dinner would have been illegal, writes NBC, but the presidency is an exception.
- The president is not subject to the broad prohibition on conflicts of interest that applies to almost everyone else who works for the federal government, says expert Dan Weiner.
Tariff crisis Trump's tariff policy
Sheinbaum: Still negotiating with Trump
Mexico is still negotiating tariffs with Donald Trump. This is according to the country's President Claudia Sheinbaum, who believes that the goal is to zero the tariffs, according to AFP and Reuters.
- The negotiations are ongoing, with good relations and good communication, she said during a speech.
Sheinbaum also announced that Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard will travel to Washington on Friday for further talks.
Although Mexico has been exempted from Trump's high reciprocal tariffs, tariffs on steel, aluminum and cars still apply, the news agency writes.
Trump's USA Nuclear deal with Iran
US and Iran meet again - talk nuclear power in Rome
Delegations from the US and Iran are to meet in Rome on Friday for the fifth round of talks on Iran's nuclear energy program. This was announced by the mediating country Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi on Wednesday.
The countries have met four times before since the talks began on April 12. Before that, direct discussions between the US and Iran were non-existent after Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal.
The talks are about a new agreement that would see Iran scale back its development of nuclear energy in exchange for the US easing sanctions.
The shooting in Washington
Attorney General: “What happened is terrible”
Elias Rodriguez, the 31-year-old suspected of the shooting in Washington, acted alone. That is the assessment made by the US authorities after initial investigative measures, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Bondi spoke to reporters near the site where the two Israeli embassy employees were killed outside the Jewish Museum in the capital.
– What happened tonight is terrible. The hatred must end and it must end now, she says, according to The Guardian.
During the afternoon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke to the victims' parents to express his condolences.
China-Russia relations
More and more Chinese are traveling to Russia
The number of Chinese traveling to Russia is increasing, reports the independent Meduza. In 2024, around 850,000 Chinese went on organized tourist trips to Russia, a fourfold increase compared to the previous year.
The increase, which is partly due to an agreement on visa-free travel between the countries in 2023, has caused problems for Russia. Among other things, there is a shortage of guides who speak Chinese and the country's public transport and hotel sector are strained when many people are visiting the cities.
In addition to organized trips, many people travel to Russia for work or private holidays. According to Putin, a total of 1.2 million Chinese visited the country last year.
