Couple shot dead in Washington: “In their prime”
The Israeli embassy in the US has posted a picture of the two victims of the Washington shooting.
The couple, Yaron and Sarah, were employees of the embassy. On Wednesday evening, they had attended an event at the Jewish Museum in Washington. As they were leaving, they were shot dead by a suspected lone gunman. In a post on X, the embassy wrote that a “terrorist” shot them dead.
“They were in the prime of their lives. The entire embassy staff is devastated by the murder. No words can express the depth of our grief and horror at this devastating loss,” it wrote.
CNN reported earlier today that the two were a couple and would soon get engaged.
Suspected shooter: I did it for Gaza
31-year-old Elias Rodriguez is suspected of the shooting that killed two Israeli embassy employees in the United States, US media reports.
According to witnesses Sky News spoke to, he shouted "free Palestine" when he was arrested by police, shortly after the shots were fired.
- He said: 'I did it. I did it for Gaza.' And then he just started shouting 'free Palestine', that's when the police arrived, says witness Katie Kalisher.
The shooting occurred outside the Jewish Museum in Washington at 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, local time.
Trump on the shooting death: "Clear anti-Semitism"

“The horrific murders in Washington, which are clearly based on anti-Semitism, must stop now! Hate and radicalism have no place in the United States,” Trump wrote on social media.
A man and woman who are employees of the Israeli embassy were shot dead last night outside the Jewish Museum in the capital after an event. A suspected perpetrator has been arrested for the act.
