Political situation in Kenya

Kenyan president to build church in presidential residence

Kenyan President William Ruto is to build a church in the presidential palace in the capital Nairobi, reports the BBC. The president says he will pay for the church himself and that he has nothing to apologize for.

– Let Satan be irritated and do what he wants, he says in a statement.

The church will accommodate 8,000 people and is believed to cost around 86 million kronor. In an open letter, an opposition politician criticizes Ruto and emphasizes that Kenya is a country for all religions, not just Christians.

Ruto's church criticized by the opposition: "Sad"

The fact that Kenyan President William Ruto plans to build a church in the presidential palace is being heavily criticized by the opposition party DAP-K, reports the Daily Nation. In a statement on X, they write that it is a strange decision to build a church for the equivalent of 86 million kronor when schools, hospitals and infrastructure are in poor condition.

“Very sad,” their post reads.

Ruto is also criticized for ignoring the country’s residents who have a religion other than Christianity.
