Anger in Democrats: "A dark day for our country"
Several Democratic congressmen are furious that Donald Trump's budget package, which he himself calls a "big, beautiful bill", has been voted through in Congress.
"There is no way to wrap this up. This is a dark day for our country", writes Senator Raphael Warnock on X after the announcement.
Ken Martin in the party's governing body DNC is also coming down hard on the president, writes The Guardian. He believes that the Republicans have sent a clear message to the population.
"If you are not billionaires, we do not care about you", he states according to The Guardian.
Expert: In the long run, Trump's budget could kill people
Donald Trump's new, huge budget package "One big beautiful bill" could hit pensioners and those who cannot afford healthcare, says US expert Jan Hallenberg to Aftonbladet.
– As many as 10 to 17 million Americans could be left without health insurance in the coming years. In the long run, people could die because of this change.
The political debate going forward will largely be about explaining to ordinary Americans what the approximately 1,000-page package actually contains, Hallenberg believes.
The budget package, which will be valid for the next ten years, contains major tax cuts and investments in defense and the migrant police ICE. This is financed, among other things, with cuts in health insurance and pensions.
Analysis: It's impossible to ignore all of Donald Trump's successes
US President Donald Trump has racked up several major political wins recently. Shawn McCreesh at the New York Times writes that even though there are many question marks surrounding Trump's policies, it's impossible to ignore his successes.
Trump has managed to attack Iran without triggering a major conflict and has gotten NATO countries to invest more in defense. The economy looks brighter than many thought, and the stock market has reached new record levels. In addition, he has now gotten the "One big beautiful bill" package of laws through Congress.
"The mood in the White House is almost described as overly positive," writes McCreesh.
Bloomberg's Mario Parker writes that Trump's presidency is turning into a "nerve-wracking ride." If nothing goes wrong, the president looks like he can achieve his goals at lightning speed.
“But with high speed also increases the risks of a violent crash,” he writes, raising a warning finger for the high tariffs and the harsh measures against migrants.
Although there are several pitfalls, Parker also notes that Trump has largely delivered what he promised, and faster than many had thought.
