Turbulent in Thailand – Prime Minister suspended
Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been suspended following a decision by a constitutional court, Reuters reports.
The decision is in effect while a legal process regarding her possible dismissal, due to unethical behavior, is ongoing.
However, she seems to be prepared: In a cabinet reshuffle on Monday, she gave herself the role of culture minister in addition to that of prime minister. This, several media outlets point out, means that she can keep her place in the government despite being suspended from the prime minister's office.
The accusations against Paetongtarn Shinawatra are based on a leaked conversation with Cambodian leader Hun Sen, in which she spoke badly about a high-ranking member of Thailand's influential military.
