Syria War New Regime

Report: Rockets hit right next to diplomatic car

Several Western diplomats were in a car near the Syrian Defense Ministry in Damascus when Israeli missiles hit the building on Wednesday, two sources told AFP.

No one in the car was injured and the vehicle was able to drive away from the area, according to the report. It is not clear how many diplomats were in the car or what country they came from.

Israel targeted both the capital and the southern parts of the country, which have been plagued by violence between minority groups for several days. More than 500 people have been killed in the fighting, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

US: Oppose Israeli Attacks on Syrian Targets

The US opposed Wednesday's Israeli airstrikes on targets in Syria, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said, according to AFP.

- The US did not support the latest Israeli airstrikes, she said, without commenting on whether the White House had expressed its displeasure to its ally or not.

She said Washington is calling on all parties involved to engage in dialogue for a lasting ceasefire, and wants the Syrian government to lead the work.
