Greenland crisis US threats

Frederiksen: The worst may lie ahead

Donald Trump's claim to Greenland is not just about Denmark, but about the entire current world order being questioned. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said this during a question time in the Folketing, Expressen reports.

- We could still have the worst ahead of us, she said according to TV2.

She emphasizes that Denmark cannot negotiate on "absolutely fundamental values" such as sovereignty, identity, borders and democracy.

- If someone starts a trade war with Europe, we will of course respond, Frederiksen continues.

Guerrilla warfare could be Canada's defense in the event of a possible US invasion

The Canadian army is considering guerrilla-like methods to defend the country against a possible invasion from the US. This is reported by The Globe and Mail, which interviewed a number of anonymous and open sources in light of Trump's threatening tone towards both Canada and Greenland.

None of the sources believe that the US will attack, the newspaper writes, but the military is still working on simulations - and notes that Canada's army does not have enough men or equipment to defend the country conventionally.

The only possibility of resistance would therefore be sabotage with explosive charges by small cells of soldiers and armed civilians, according to the sources, who refer to the Afghan guerrilla warfare in the war against the Soviet Union.

Several sources also put their faith in foreign support in the event of a possible attack.

- People care about what happens to Canada, unlike Venezuela, says retired Major General David Fraser.

EU agrees to suspend trade agreement with the US

The European Parliament agrees to suspend the Union's trade agreement with the US due to Donald Trump's tariff threats against several European countries. This is reported by AFP and Le Monde.

The largest parties have previously announced that they want to stop the ratification process for the agreement concluded with the US last year.

Social Democrat S&D leader Iratxe García Pérez says that there is now a “broad majority” among the political groups, writes Le Monde.

According to the BBC, the EU will officially announce its decision on Wednesday.
