US moves IS prisoners from Syria to Iraq

The US military is preparing to move up to 7,000 captured IS members from Syria to Iraq.

Around 150 IS members have been taken from the province of al-Hasakah in Syria to Iraq, where they will be held prisoner.

But according to the statement from the military command center Centcom (United States Central Command), it may ultimately be necessary to move around 7,000 prisoners, writes X. The goal is to ensure that the prisoners are kept incarcerated.

Since the US suspended cooperation with the Kurds in the fight against IS in Syria, the Kurdish-led SDF forces have reportedly abandoned the IS camp al-Hol in al-Hasakah and allowed the prisoners to escape.

According to the SDF, up to 1,500 IS prisoners may have escaped.
