Trump wants to see high-level meeting between Ukraine and Russia
Donald Trump says Friday has been a good day of talks and meetings with Russia and Ukraine, he writes on Truth Social.
“They are very close to a deal, and the two sides should now meet at a very high level to ‘finish it all off.’ Most of the main points are already agreed upon,” he writes.
He also writes that the United States will be available worldwide to help facilitate an end to the bloodshed.
Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow earlier on Friday. According to the Kremlin, direct talks between Kyiv and Moscow were discussed at the meeting, something that has not happened since 2022.
Trump has recently made a number of positive statements about the talks, but has so far not presented any concrete progress.
Sources: US may secretly support Starmer's plan
The US has hinted behind closed doors that it could offer security guarantees to European peacekeeping forces that could be deployed in Ukraine after a possible ceasefire is reached, sources told The Telegraph.
The information contradicts Donald Trump's previous statements that Europe is unlikely to need US help. According to the information, the US is willing to at least offer logistical help and share intelligence with Europe. However, no final decision has been made.
The plan with European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine has been presented by Britain's Keir Starmer. When asked if Trump has offered security guarantees, he replies:
- There are discussions going on and he has repeatedly said that he will support us. And I have made it clear that it is an important part of the plan.
The information, however, comes the day after the British The Times published information that Starmer's plan could be scrapped over concerns about a confrontation between Russian troops and Europeans.

Zelensky: Crimea is Ukrainian - we do not have enough weapons
Volodymyr Zelensky responds to Donald Trump's statement that the occupied Crimean peninsula will remain Russian.
- Our position is unchanged. Only the Ukrainian people have the right to determine which territories belong to Ukraine. The Ukrainian constitution states that all temporarily occupied territories belong to Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, he says at a press conference.
However, he agrees with Trump on one point.
- What President Trump says is true, and I agree with him that today we do not have enough weapons to regain control of the Crimean peninsula.
He repeats his message that he is willing to discuss what should happen to the occupied territories after a complete ceasefire is achieved.
