Bondi wants access to reporters' records - to stop leaks

Donald Trump's Attorney General Pam Bondi wants to make it possible to seize reporters' phone records in connection with criminal investigations, US media reports. During Joe Biden's time, a policy was introduced that limited prosecutors' ability to directly target journalists and force them to testify in connection with investigations of leaks - a policy that Bondi has now repealed.

The aim is to access possible leaks from within the administration. In an internal memo, Bondi writes that federal employees who share sensitive information with the media "engage in behavior that can be characterized as treasonous".

"The Department of Justice will not tolerate revelations that undermine President Trump's policies, victimize agencies and harm the American people", Bondi writes further.

Two-year-old deported – conservative judge raises alarm

The Trump administration has deported a two-year-old American citizen to Honduras "without due process" and despite her father frantically urging the court to let her stay in the country. Now a federal judge is raising the alarm about the case, Politico reports.

The girl was sent out of the United States with her mother and sister, after the mother was arrested by the immigration agency, ICE. The Trump administration claims that the mother wanted her daughter with her, but conservative federal judge Terry Doughty wants to investigate that information.

- We want to test our strong suspicion that the government just deported an American citizen without any due process, Doughty said in a hearing on Friday.

American public opinion
Two out of three believe that Trump's first term has been chaotic

66 percent of voters think that "chaotic" is a good word to describe Donald Trump's first hundred days in the White House, according to a new poll from the New York Times/Siena College. Of those surveyed, 59 percent believe that the time has been "scary" while 42 percent see the months as "exciting".

On several of Trump's most important issues, a majority of Americans believe that the president has gone too far, including when it comes to tariffs, immigration and cuts.

In total, 54 percent believe that Trump has exceeded his powers as president. About one in six Republicans, 16 percent, agree. One who is worried is Trump voter Douglas Williams, even though he agrees with the policies he has pursued.

“I believe so strongly in the Constitution that I’m at least a little concerned about how far we’re pushing it,” he says.

About the survey

The survey was conducted by Siena College, which in 2024 was named the best opinion pollster in the United States with an A+ rating by the political website Fivethirtyeight. The survey interviewed 913 voters across the country between April 21 and 24.
