Middle East Crisis Israel vs Iran

Iran's Khamenei claims "victory" over Israel

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says the US hit nuclear facilities during its attacks, but that they "did not achieve much", Reuters reports. It is the leader's first public appearance since the ceasefire with Israel.

In a post on X, he praises what he calls a victory over Israel, Reuters reports.

"I congratulate you on the victory over the deceitful Zionist regime", the post reads.

Khamenei says in a state television broadcast that Trump exaggerated the consequences of the attacks on the nuclear facilities, and that the US did not gain anything from the conflict, AFP reports.

He also threatens to attack the US if it is subjected to more attacks and that Iran will never give up.

- The fact that we have US bases within range is a great advantage. Any future aggression against Iran will cost them dearly.

Netanyahu: We have paved the way for more peace agreements

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that the “victory over Iran” has paved the way for more peace agreements in the region, Israeli media reports.

– There is a golden opportunity that cannot be missed. We must not waste a single day, he said in a statement.

His comments come a day after Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, talked about more countries being expected to join the Abraham Accords.

– We believe we have big news coming about countries that will join the Abraham Accords, he told CNBC.

The Abraham Accords are the name of the normalization agreements signed by Israel and several Arab states during Trump’s first term.
