Interior minister accuses protesters of coup
Kenya's Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen accuses protesters of trying to overthrow the government, Reuters reports. He also claims that police prevented people from breaking into parliament.
Boniface Mwangi, a prominent figure behind the protests, accuses the minister of trying to divert attention from the real purpose of the protests.
Thousands of Kenyans participated in Wednesday's protests, a year after the major demonstrations against the government in 2024.

At least 16 people are reported to have died and hundreds have been injured in connection with the major protests in Kenya, according to Amnesty. AFP has spoken to Winifred Mwangi, whose husband David died in the capital Nairobi on Wednesday.

The woman says that the couple had two children. One is two months old and the other has a disability.
Wednesday's demonstrations started to draw attention to the violent protests in the summer of 2024. In several places, police and protesters are said to have clashed.
