Now both the US and Norway confirm that they will send tanks to Ukraine.
From the American side, there will be 31 wagons of the M1 Abrams type – one of the country's most powerful ground weapons.
- In general, I am grateful to the world for the support for Ukraine. But quite frankly, the number of tanks that are sent, and when they arrive in Ukraine, is critical, says Zelensky.
Now the United States confirms that it will send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The M1 Abrams is one of the most powerful ground weapons in the US arsenal.
- The reason we are sending 31 is that there are so many that would make up a Ukrainian battalion. So we face it, said an American official, writes ABC.
Several European countries ship
Norway also confirms on Wednesday evening that they will send tanks, writes NRK. There will be tanks of, among other things, the Leopard 2-A4 type.
Several European countries have bought their tanks from Germany and therefore had to wait for German approval to send them to Ukraine.
On Tuesday, Germany came out and said it will send tanks, thereby allowing countries that bought their tanks from them to also send them to Ukraine.
As it stands now, Germany will send 14 Leopard 2 tanks, a figure that could be increased to 100, however.
Poland and Great Britain will send 14 tanks.
The Netherlands and Spain should also be ready to send tanks.
Sweden has opened to send at a later date.
Zelensky's answer
In an interview with Sky News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has thanked the countries that decided to send tanks. But at the same time, he is still worried.
- Purely crass, the number of tanks that are sent, and when, is critical for Ukraine, he says.
