Seven dead after shooting at synagogue

At least seven people have died after a shooting at a synagogue in Jerusalem.
A number are being treated in hospital with serious injuries.
The suspected perpetrator is said to have been shot dead by security forces, according to The Jerusalem Post.

The killing occurred at a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood of Jerusalem on Friday evening
The perpetrator opened fire on people who were on their way out after the Friday evening prayer.
At least seven people have died. Around ten are said to have been injured, several of them seriously.
The perpetrator tried to escape in a car when he was shot dead by security forces, according to The Jerusalem Post.
The paramedics on site tell the newspaper about the drama.
- We saw a woman and four men lying on the road. They had gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life. We had to declare them dead immediately, "says the paramedic. Fadi Dekidek.
- Three more injured, including a 70-year-old woman whose condition is critical.
"My heart is breaking"
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold a press conference later this evening.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid reacts strongly after the incident.
- My heart breaks in these difficult times. I send my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and a speedy recovery to those injured. Terrorism must not be allowed to raise its head anywhere. These threats must be dealt with harshly.
The Jerusalem Post previously stated that eight people died in connection with the shooting before the number was changed to seven.
