Modi on the disaster: Absolutely heartbreaking
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi describes Wednesday's events in Bangalore, where at least ten people were crushed to death during a cricket celebration, as "absolutely heartbreaking" in a post on X.
"At this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones," he writes.
D K Shivakumar, deputy chief minister of the Karnataka region, describes the crowd as "uncontrollable."
- Although the police have made efforts to try to control the crowd at the stadium, it has been difficult, he tells The Hindu.

At least ten people have been crushed to death when hundreds of thousands of cricket fans took to the streets of Bangalore, India. The death toll is expected to rise, according to Indian media.
Crowds celebrate local team Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the Premier League cricket tournament, and chaos ensues, including outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
About 40 people have been injured, including at least one child. Several are in critical condition.
