Temporary military area set up ahead of summit

A temporary military area has been set up at Nordhavnen in Copenhagen ahead of the EU summit on Wednesday, reports TV2.

From 11:30 a.m., the EU leaders will arrive in the capital.

The Danish Ministry of Defense also writes in a press release that several allies have sent soldiers to Copenhagen, including Sweden, Norway and Germany.

Police: “One of the largest operations in many years”

The Danish police's operation ahead of the EU summit is one of the largest in many years, Deputy Police Inspector Lasse Michelsen tells DR.

– We are getting help from Swedish colleagues and colleagues from all over Denmark, so you will see a lot of police on the streets, he says.

The channel also writes that there is a large press contingent, with over 900 journalists from all over the world gathered in the capital.

The meeting has begun – Ukraine's defense on the agenda

The EU summit in Copenhagen has begun, reports TV2. The agenda includes Ukraine and defense issues, according to DR. The meeting will last until 5:30 p.m., with a break at 3 p.m.

A press conference will then be held, before the EU leaders move on to a dinner at the palace.

Before the meeting began, Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he would not attend due to health reasons, Reuters reports.
