Chaos then broke out on the train as panicked people tried to escape.
The train was stopped outside Huntingdon and two people were arrested. According to witnesses, the police used electric shock weapons during the arrest.
The incident is being investigated by counter-terrorism police but no motive has been established. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has urged the public not to speculate at “this early stage”.
Police withdraw codeword for terror attack
British police used the codeword Plato in the first phase of the operation in Huntingdon. Plato is announced when it concerns an ongoing terrorist attack.
Later it was announced that it had been withdrawn and that the train attack was now described as a serious incident. No explanation has yet been given as to why, writes the BBC.
So far there is no information about either the two arrested or who was stabbed on the train.
