 Xi Jinping’s China
Millions of Chinese take “world’s toughest exam”

A record number of Chinese have registered to take the exam required to apply for a government job, The Guardian reports. 3.7 million will take the exam on Saturday and Sunday.

They are competing for 38,100 vacant government positions across the country. Over 6,400 people have applied for one of the jobs, a position at the immigration office in Yunnan province.

The civil service exam in China consists of several parts, including a multiple-choice section and an essay section. The questions can be about everything from poetry to mathematical problem-solving. In an article this summer, The Economist called it “one of the world’s toughest exams.”

Trump’s USA Tensions in the Caribbean
Hegseth’s order before the boat attack: Kill everyone

On September 2, the US military carried out the first in a series of attacks on alleged drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean Sea. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave clear verbal instructions, two sources with insight into the operation told the Washington Post.

“The order was to kill everyone,” one of them said.

A missile was fired from the coast of Trinidad, and the explosion ignited the boat while American commanders watched via drone camera. When the smoke cleared after several minutes, they saw two survivors clinging to it. Then a second missile was fired, blowing them to pieces.

The United States has attacked a total of 22 boats in the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans. 71 people have been killed.

Political situation in Guinea-Bissau
Guinea-Bissau’s ousted president is in Senegal

Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embalo has been flown to Senegal on a military plane chartered by the Senegalese government, AFP reports. He was arrested during this week’s military coup and is now said to be in good health.

Opposition politician Fernando Dias, meanwhile, accuses the president of orchestrating the coup to prevent Dias from becoming the new president. Both have declared victory in the election held over the weekend.

Earlier on Thursday, the military appointed General Horta N’tam as interim president.
