Data: US ready to recognize Crimea as Russian
The US is expected to recognize the Crimean Peninsula and other Russian-occupied areas in Ukraine as Russian, according to the Telegraph.
The goal is to secure an agreement that ends the war.
US President Donald Trump is reported to have sent his envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner to Moscow to deliver the offer directly to Vladimir Putin.
According to the Telegraph, the agreement is expected to be brought forward despite the fact that it violates American diplomatic convention – and that European neighboring countries have expressed great concern.
– It is becoming increasingly clear that the Americans do not care about the European position. They say that the Europeans can do whatever they want, a source tells the Telegraph.
Putin: “Is crucial”
The Russian president said on Thursday that Washington’s recognition of Crimea and the Donetsk and Luhansk regions as Russian territories is crucial to approving Trump’s peace deal.
Ukraine and the United States have previously agreed on a draft peace proposal consisting of 19 points, but the most sensitive issues, including what will happen to Russian-occupied territories, were not included among the points.
