Large protests against far-right meeting in Germany
Tens of thousands of people are protesting on Saturday against the formation of a youth association for the far-right party ADF in the German city of Giessen.
According to police, more than 30,000 are expected to participate in the demonstration, the DPA news agency reports. Up to 5,000 police have been called in from all over the country to quell any riots and break up roadblocks.
Due to the demonstration, the start of the meeting to form the ADF youth association had to be postponed for two hours, as around 1,000 participants were unable to reach the meeting due to the roadblocks.
The new youth association is intended to replace the former Junge Alternative (JA), which was dissolved after being classified as an extremist organization by security services.
