Airbus recall
Airbus recalls 6,000 planes – could lead to major flight disruptions
Airbus is recalling 6,000 A320 aircraft due to a software bug, which allows radiation from the sun to distort data and thereby disrupt the control system. This is reported by Reuters. The model is one of the most common in the world.
Airbus writes in a press release that it recognizes that the decision will lead to “operational disruptions”. Reuters writes that the problems risk becoming extensive given the intensive weekends ahead for aviation.
For most of the planes, the recall will involve a short service to return to an earlier software. For hundreds of planes, hardware will need to be replaced, which will result in them being out of service for several weeks.
Data: Around 1,000 planes will be grounded for weeks
Airbus is
recalling up to 6,000 A320-class aircraft due to a software bug. For
around 1,000 of the aircraft, the work will take several weeks,
according to sources to AFP.
The current software bug was
discovered in late October, when an aircraft suffered a severe fall from
altitude and was forced to make an emergency landing in Florida.

Data outage halts trading: “Like flying in the dark”
Futures trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) has been halted for several hours due to a failure in a data center. It is disrupting the markets for currencies, bonds and commodities, reports Bloomberg.
Among other things, S&P 500 futures and trading in crude oil, gasoline and palm oil are affected by the data outage.
“It’s a bit like flying in the dark, American futures give an indication of where the market is heading before the open,” says ICAP Europe’s head of equities Thomas Helaine.
CME states that it is due to a cooling failure at a data center, and that they are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Pre-trading for the Nasdaq 100 and Dow Jones is also halted.
The problems were fixed at 2:30 p.m. Swedish time.
