Russian invasion Negotiations

Zelenskyj in London for meetings with European leaders

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj met Britain's Keir Starmer, France's Emmanuel Macron and Germany's Friedrich Merz in London on Monday for talks on peace talks with Russia.

The meeting is being held after US President Donald Trump criticized Zelenskyj for "not having read" the US peace proposal.

Starmer stressed that he does not intend to pressure Ukraine to accept the US proposal, which several European leaders believe favors Russia.

- The most important thing is that a ceasefire is fair and lasting, he told ITV News.

In an interview with Bloomberg earlier on Monday, Zelenskyj said that several sensitive issues, such as territories and security guarantees, remain to be resolved within the framework of the negotiations.

No major breakthroughs for Zelensky in London

Once again, several of Europe's most important leaders say they support Volodymyr Zelensky in his quest for a just peace in Ukraine. This is reported by several media outlets after the Ukrainian president met with the leaders of Britain, France and Germany in London.

The meeting takes place in connection with the US trying to broker peace in the conflict and at the same time being accused of being pro-Russian in its stance.

The leaders agreed on "a common position on the importance of security guarantees and reconstruction, and agreed on the next steps," Zelensky writes on X after the meeting. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office added that the leaders at the meeting "emphasized the need for a just and lasting peace."

There are no reports that any major breakthroughs were achieved.

Trump: Zelensky not ready to accept peace deal

US President Donald Trump is expressing dissatisfaction that this weekend's talks between Ukraine and the US in Florida did not result in a breakthrough.

The problem is that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not ready for peace, Trump claims.

- Russia, I think, has no problem with it, but I'm not sure that's the case with Zelensky. His people love it, but he's not ready, Trump says according to the AP.

The US's first draft of the peace plan was considered to be heavily in Russia's favor. After talks with Ukraine, it has been revised, but many details are still unknown.

- I'm a little disappointed that President Zelensky had not yet read the proposal a few hours ago.

Source: US demands Ukraine hand over Donbas

The White House is adamant that Ukraine must hand over control of all of Donbas in order to achieve peace. This is stated by European sources to Politico.

– When it comes to territorial issues, the Americans are simple: Russia demands that Ukraine give up territory, and the Americans are constantly thinking about how to implement it, says a senior European official with insight into the negotiations, adding:

– The Americans insist that Ukraine must leave Donbas, one way or another.

Ukraine controls about 30 percent of the vast region and insists that the front lines should be frozen in the event of a ceasefire. They are also against handing over land.

– Can we imagine giving up territories? We have no legal right to do so, and we have no moral right either, Zelenskyj said after today's summit in London.
