Think tank: Signals from Russia not positive
From Ukraine and the US there are hopes for peace, but from Russia there are statements that indicate that much remains to be resolved. This is what the think tank ISW writes ahead of tonight's meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyj.
A senior Kremlin official recently said that Russia will not "budge an inch" from its demands. Similar statements were made by spokespeople Maria Zakharova and Dmitry Peskov on Monday.
Peskov told CNN that it would "be significant progress" if Ukraine gave up all of Donbas to Russia.
"This suggests that such a concession would not be enough for Russia to end the war and that the Russians do not agree to the key point of the 20-point plan, to freeze the front line," writes ISW.
Zelenskyj and Trump to call European leaders
Volodymyr Zelenskyj has arrived in Miami for the meeting with Donald Trump. He was received by Ukrainian Ambassador Olha Stefanishyna, among others, reports CNN.
At the same time, his staff announces that the two presidents will hold phone calls with European leaders in connection with the meeting, which is expected to begin at Mar-a-Lago at 7 p.m. Swedish time. It is not clear who will participate in the call.
"These are some of the most diplomatically active days of the year, and much can be accomplished before the New Year," Zelenskyj writes on social media
Trump: Had a productive conversation with Putin
Donald Trump has had a “good and very productive” phone call with Vladimir Putin, he writes on Truth Social. He does not provide details.
The call was held ahead of the meeting between Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyj, which begins at Mar-a-Lago at 7 p.m. Swedish time. The press is invited, Trump writes.
