Climate Threat Global Challenges
Climate Change Made This Year's Extreme Weather Worse
Climate change made storms, floods and forest fires worse this year than they would otherwise have been. This is stated by the research network World Weather Attribution (WWA) in a new report, writes TT.
During the year, WWA has identified 157 extreme weather events worldwide, with extensive humanitarian impact. The deadliest events are heat waves. A single heat wave in Europe is estimated to have cost at least 24,000 lives.
In the past three years, the average temperature has exceeded 1.5 degrees Celsius for the first time compared to pre-industrial times, according to the report. It is also stated that some societies are now being pushed beyond the limit of what they can adapt to.
