The War in Yemen

Saudi Arabia Bombs Yemen – Alleged Arms Shipment Hit

Saudi Arabia has bombed the port city of Mukalla in Yemen. The attack is said to have targeted an arms shipment to separatist forces in Yemen, which are supported by the United Arab Emirates, reports the New York Times.

Saudi Arabia calls the United Arab Emirates’ involvement in Yemen “extremely dangerous,” writes the AP. The attack represents a clear escalation in tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which support different sides in Yemen’s long war against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

The Yemeni government is recognized by the international community as the country’s legitimate government and has Saudi Arabia as its main ally. Yemen is now closing its borders for 72 hours and declaring a state of emergency for 90 days.

Yemen Cancels Defense Agreement with the United Arab Emirates

Yemen's President Rashad al-Alimi has canceled a defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates after an alleged arms shipment to Yemeni separatist forces, Al Jazeera reports. He is now giving the UAE forces 24 hours to leave the country.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia attacked a port city in Yemen, where two ships loaded with weapons from the United Arab Emirates are said to have docked, according to several news agencies.

The move is described by the New York Times as an escalation in tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which support different sides in Yemen's civil conflict.

The Yemeni government, which is recognized by the international community as the country's legitimate government, counts Saudi Arabia as its main ally. The UAE supports the separatist group STC, Al Jazeera writes.
