White House: Second missile approved by admiral
An admiral gave the go-ahead for the second missile strike on the alleged drug boat in the Caribbean Sea on September 2, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, according to Reuters.
The admiral was tasked by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to destroy the boat, and had the legal authority to order a second missile strike, she continued.
The White House has been sharply criticized, and accused of war crimes by voices in both parties, for the attack. The Washington Post reported last week that Hegseth had ordered everyone on board the boat to be killed.
After the first missile, the boat was set on fire, and when the smoke cleared, two survivors were seen clinging to it. Then a second missile was sent that “blasted the men to pieces in the water.”
Sources: Trump calls for a big meeting on Venezuela
Donald Trump has called his entire top echelon to a meeting on Venezuela in the Oval Office on Monday, sources tell CNN.
Among the participants are Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Defense Secretary Dan Caine, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
The purpose of the meeting is said to be to decide on the next step in the conflict with Venezuela. Despite a large military presence in the region and a series of threats, Trump has still held off on military strikes – but it seems to be getting closer.
In a phone call last week, Trump urged Maduro to leave the country immediately, according to Miami Herald sources.
– We said he could go to Russia or another country, says Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin.
