Uppgifter: US wants to leave NATO responsibility in 2027

Europe must take over large parts of the responsibility for NATO by the year after next at the latest.
The US has threatened this at meetings this week, according to Reuters news agency sources.
Ever since the defense alliance was founded in 1949, the US has had a dominant role, and large forces have been deployed in Europe.
But now the Trump administration is so dissatisfied with the fact that European countries are not contributing more that it is threatening to hand over the main responsibility for much of the operation. The Pentagon is said to have given the grim message to European delegations this week, Reuters reports.
This could mean that the large forces and weapons that the US currently has in European countries would have to be replaced with personnel and equipment from EU countries and the UK.
The signals are a further tightening of the demands that Donald Trump has previously made on how large parts of GDP other NATO members allocate to defense.
According to the information, the US has set a deadline of 2027 for Europe to meet the superpower's demands.
