Violence in Nigeria

Nigeria: Trump gave green light to attack on IS

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu gave the US the green light to the attack on IS men in the northwestern state of Sokoto on Boxing Day. This is what the country's Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar told CNN.

- This is not about religion. This is about Nigerians, innocent civilians and the region as a whole, he added.

Donald Trump justifies the attack with the murder of Christians in the country by IS terrorists. According to a review by the BBC, it is difficult to find evidence that Christians are murdered to a greater extent than other groups, including Muslims who do not follow the terrorists' ideology.

Nigeria is ready to work with anyone who wants to fight terrorism, according to Tuggar.

More US-led attacks expected in Nigeria: “Signals something bigger”

The US attacks against the terrorist group IS in Nigeria on Friday are the first step in a larger offensive. Several analysts believe this after hints from both countries, international media reports.

– Based on what we know about the attacks, they signal something bigger, security analyst Confidence MacHarry tells Bloomberg.

Brant Philip, an expert on East and West Africa, sees the attacks on Christmas Day as a symbolic start.

– They did not achieve any significant results, but more are expected soon, he tells AFP.

Donald Trump has justified the attacks against IS with the murders of Christians, but both independent analysts and Nigerian government sources deny that Christians are more vulnerable than others.

Nigeria's Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar states that Nigeria provides the US with intelligence. When asked if there will be more attacks, he told AFP:

“This is an ongoing project.”
