Haiti is changing prime minister once again. The country's transitional council fires Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and his successor will become Haiti's fourth leader in less than two years.

Fils-Aimé took office at the end of 2024, when his predecessor Garry Conille was fired. According to the council, a new leader will be appointed within 30 days. The change of leadership comes despite calls from the United States to achieve political stability.

The transitional council was established in 2024 after a previous prime minister was ousted after pressure from the United States, among other things. By then, Haiti had descended into complete chaos, with armed criminal groups holding real power in large parts of the Caribbean nation.

The transitional council was also supposed to pave the way for a new parliament, but several of its members have been accused of corruption.
