Situation of Muslims in India
Criticized the temple consecration - Indian media in spin
The Ram Mandir Hindu temple was officially inaugurated as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a number of rituals on Monday.
- January 22, 2024 is not an ordinary day in the calendar. It marks a new era, Modi said after the ceremony.
The temple is controversial because it is built on the ruins of a 16th-century mosque that was destroyed by Hindu nationalists in 1992. It is located in the city of Ayodhya, which Hindus consider the birthplace of the god Ram.
Critics claim that Modi is using religion to secure Hindu nationalist votes in the upcoming presidential election.
The opening topped all major Indian news sites, which offer readers live reporting on every little detail, writes CNN.

The presidential election in Finland
Nine presidential candidates meet in a bilingual debate
Election week in Finland has begun. All nine presidential candidates clash tonight in a bilingual debate in Svenska Yle, starting at 19.55.
The host of the debate says that the election campaign has largely been about the security threat and the war in Ukraine. The president's influence is also at its greatest in these matters, but in the debate one wants to take a larger perspective.
- We will also try to pressure the candidates on how they, as president, would use their informal power in domestic matters, says Magnus Swanljung, one of the presenters.
Before the debate, all candidates must also be questioned by the newspaper Iltalehti.
