The war in Sudan

New offensive believed to be underway: “We live in fear”

Residents in the Sudanese town of al-Ubayyid fear what is believed to be the next target for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), writes AFP. Resident Soaad Ali says that the concern is strong after testimonies of mass killings and rapes in connection with the militia group taking control of the town of al-Fashir two weeks ago.

The RSF has stated that an offensive is imminent and urged civilians to stay away from military targets.

– We live in fear, says another resident.

According to the UN, more than 80,000 people have fled al-Ubayyid in recent weeks.
