Peace Prize laureate Machado to arrive in Oslo

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado will be in Oslo to receive her peace prize.

Nobel Committee Secretary Kristian Berg Harpviken says he has received confirmation from the laureate.

– I was in contact with Machado last night (Friday) and she confirms that she will be in Oslo for the ceremony, he says.

He adds that for security reasons he cannot say more about how or exactly when the laureate will arrive.

Machado receives the peace prize for her “tireless work in promoting democratic rights for the Venezuelan people and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy,” according to the citation.
