Ukraine is working to send a new revised peace proposal to the US on Tuesday, the country's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj says.

The announcement comes after Ukraine, together with European allies, boiled down the White House's previous draft of 28 points to 20.

"We do not like everything that our partners came back with. Although this issue is not so much about the Americans as about the Russians," Zelensky writes during a digital press conference.

“But we will definitely work on it,” the president continued, adding that he would “do everything” to “send our view on this to the United States” on Tuesday evening.

The two major stumbling blocks in the negotiations for the Ukrainian side are security guarantees and territory. An earlier American draft peace plan was called by critics a Russian wish list. Among other things, Ukraine would effectively give up occupied territories and little else, as well as agree to limit its military capabilities and renounce future military alliances.

Zelenskyj says that Ukraine has neither the legal nor the moral right to cede territory to Russia, which wants Ukraine to give up territories in the east that Russia has not subjugated.

Regarding security guarantees, Zelenskyj wants the United States to send a clear message.

“The most important thing is to know what our partners are prepared to do in the event of new aggression from Russia. At the moment, we have not received an answer to this question,” the president wrote.
