Trump's USA • Greenland's future

Frederiksen on Trump's threat: "We are at a crossroads"

The US is still Denmark's most important ally, despite Donald Trump's repeated threats to take over Greenland. This is what Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a party leaders' debate on Sunday, Danish media reports.

Frederiksen says that the conflict is about more than Denmark and Greenland. However, she does not want to answer the question of whether there is a plan for how Denmark will act if the US tries to take Greenland by military force.

- We are at a crossroads, and it is a decisive moment.

- If we experience that the Americans turn their backs on the Western alliance, then the world will end, she says, adding that Denmark has received "massive support" from NATO leaders.

Diplomats: Trump is wrong about Greenland – Russia and China are not there

Donald Trump is wrong when he says that Russia and China are interested in Greenland, according to Nordic diplomats who spoke to the Financial Times. Last week, the president said that "there are a lot" of Russian and Chinese ships around the island.

No Russian or Chinese ships or submarines have been seen around Greenland for several years, according to the FT's sources.

- It is simply not true that the Chinese and Russians are there, says an informant.

The US president said at a press conference on Friday that Russia or China will take action against Greenland if the US does not protect Greenland. His statement was also rejected by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on Saturday.

- It is not true that there is a lot of Russian and Chinese activity around Greenland, he told NRK.

Democrat: "Defy Trump if he orders an attack"

Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu is urging the US military to defy Donald Trump if he orders a military attack on Greenland without going through Congress. He writes this in a post on X, reports Danish TV2.

"Greenland is part of Denmark, a NATO ally. If Trump orders an attack on Greenland without Congressional approval, it is an illegal order. You should refuse to obey that order," Lieu writes.

At the same time, he reminds the military that their oath is to the Constitution, not Trump.

In November, six Democrats urged soldiers to defy illegal orders, which made Trump furious and say that treason is "punishable by death."
