Moscow: US releases two Russian crew members
The US has released two Russian crew members who were on board the Russian-flagged oil tanker that was seized in the Atlantic earlier this week, Moscow said, according to AFP.
Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said the release was made at the Russian request to Donald Trump.
“We welcome this decision and express our gratitude to the US leadership,” Zakharova said.
It is unclear how many crew members are on board the ship.
The US has boarded another oil tanker in the Caribbean
The US has seized another oil tanker near Trinidad in the Caribbean Sea, the country's Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed on X.
"The ghost fleet cannot escape justice," she wrote in her post.
The tanker is the Olina, which according to Reuters is sailing under a false East Timorese flag. The ship, which was already sanctioned by the US last year, is said to have been on its way from Venezuela.
It is the fifth oil tanker that the US has boarded in an attempt to control Venezuela's oil exports.
