SDF: Army lying about alleged ceasefire in Aleppo
The Syrian army is declaring a ceasefire and will suspend all military activity in the Sheikh Maqsud area of Aleppo on Saturday afternoon, according to the state news agency SANA.
However, the Kurdish militia SDF says in a statement that they are still under attack in the area, calling the ceasefire statement "a clear attempt to mislead."
Fighting between the Kurdish militia SDF and government forces has raged in Sheikh Maqsud, which is mainly inhabited by Kurds, since Tuesday.
Earlier on Saturday, the Syrian army claimed to have driven the SDF out of the area. This was also denied by the militia.
According to AP, the fighting broke out after talks on how the SDF, under an agreement, will be incorporated into the national army broke down. At least 22 civilians have been killed in the fighting.
