Venezuela's president: We are not subjugated by the US

Venezuela is not subjugated by the US. This is what Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodríguez says again, after Donald Trump claimed that the US is now ruling the country, reports TT.

- We are not subordinate or subjugated, says Rodríguez during a ceremony on Thursday, where the hundred Venezuelans who are said to have been killed during the operation against President Nicolás Maduro were honored.

At the same time, Donald Trump announces that he will meet Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel laureate María Corina Machado next week.

- I look forward to saying hello to her, he says in an interview with Fox News.

Machado is at an undisclosed location but has previously said that she intends to return to Venezuela.

Trump calls off "second attack" on Venezuela

Donald Trump calls off an "expected second attack" on Venezuela, he writes on social media. The president sees the fact that Venezuela has released a large number of political prisoners as a sign that the country is “seeking peace.”

“The United States and Venezuela are working well together, especially when it comes to rebuilding the country’s oil and gas infrastructure in a much bigger, better and more modern form,” he writes.

Trump thus believes that there no longer seems to be a need for a “second attack,” as he believes there were previously plans. However, American ships will remain in the area, he writes.

Trump and Machado to meet in Washington next week

US President Donald Trump will meet with Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel laureate María Corina Machado in Washington next week, he says in an interview with Fox News.

– I understand she’s coming sometime next week, and I look forward to saying hello to her, says Trump.

The meeting takes place after the US captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. It will be the first time Trump and Machado have met.

Last week, Trump said that Machado lacked the respect needed to take over the government in Venezuela. He has also indicated that the peace prize should have been given to him instead of Machado.

According to AFP, Trump believes that Machado will present him with the peace prize when they meet.

– I understand that she wants to do that. It would be a great honor, he says.
