Recently, Donald Trump threatened to capture Colombian leader Gustavo Petro.

Now the American president has announced that he will receive his Colombian counterpart at the White House in February.

– That sounds good to me, Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One the other day.

The comment was in response to a question about whether the United States might intervene in Colombia after the attack on Venezuela – where leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured on the night of January 3 – and was preceded by hateful remarks in which Petro was described as “a sick man who likes to make cocaine”.

Earlier this week, an invitation was sent to the Colombian president by phone and on Friday Trump confirmed that Petro would visit the White House in February.

“I look forward to meeting with Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia, at the White House, the first week of February,” the US president wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform, adding that “cocaine and other drugs must be stopped from reaching the United States.”

The confirmation of the meeting came shortly after Petro announced in a post on X that he had spoken on the phone with Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez.

“I have invited the current President of Venezuela to work with us on this issue,” Petro wrote, calling for a joint effort to defeat the traffickers.
