The Greenland crisis contributes when the EU appoints former Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen as a special advisor on the Arctic.

Katainen will, among other things, help develop an updated EU policy for the Arctic region and work closely with the European Commission, the member states and not least the EU office in the Greenland capital Nuuk, the Commission says in a press release.

The 54-year-old Katainen was Prime Minister of Finland from 2011-14 and then EU Commissioner with responsibility for jobs and growth until 2019.
