Spanish Prime Minister's Wife Accused of Bribery

Begoña Gómez, who is married to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, is formally accused of several cases of corruption crimes.
Gómez denies any wrongdoing.
The investigation into corruption allegations has been ongoing since April 2024, and concerns questions about whether Gómez exploited her position as the wife of the socialist prime minister for her own gain.
Formal charges have now been filed by judge Juan Carlos Peinado, who says he has found sufficient evidence to support the suspicions.
Prime Minister Sánchez has on several occasions accused the investigation of being politically motivated. Sánchez has responded by, among other things, filing a lawsuit against Peinado after the judge did not allow written answers from the prime minister, but demanded oral testimony.
