Xi and Sánchez want to strengthen communication

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in Beijing on Tuesday, Chinese state media reported.

The meeting resulted in pledges to protect multilateralism.

“We should strengthen communication, consolidate mutual trust, cooperate closely, oppose the world’s regression to the law of the jungle, and jointly safeguard genuine multilateralism,” Xi said.

Sánchez said both countries could help find solutions to various trade tensions and geopolitical difficulties, among other issues.

The visit to China, which is Sánchez’s fourth in four years, comes as Spain’s relationship with the United States is under pressure due to the country’s opposition to the war in Iran.
