Pension giants' concerns: Musk gains too much power in Space X

Heads of three of the US's four public pension funds warn that Elon Musk will gain too much power over SpaceX after the rocket company's upcoming IPO, Reuters reports.

The criticism comes from the New York State Common Retirement Fund, New York City Pension Funds and California-based and the largest pension fund in the United States, Calpers. They believe that Musk risks gaining too much control over voting rights in the stock, while at the same time gaining veto power against being removed as CEO and protection from lawsuits.

“We are writing to express our great concern about the reported new and extreme governance structure and rules that SpaceX is planning,” the officials write.

SpaceX backing away from parts of the corporate governance structure and giving minority shareholders greater influence are some of the trio’s demands.

The decision comes after lowered production forecasts and concerns about weaker harvests. The announcement is expected to reduce supply globally and could contribute to rising prices.

India is the world's second largest sugar producer and has a major influence on the world market.
