Rubio: US stance on Taiwan unchanged
The US stance on Taiwan is unchanged after the meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. This is what US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with NBC News.
– US policy on the Taiwan issue is unchanged after the meeting we had here today. The issue was raised, which they always do. We always clarify our position and then move on to other topics, says Rubio.
Chinese President Xi Jinping warned earlier in the day that the Taiwan issue, if "mishandled", could lead to a "very dangerous situation".
In December last year, Donald Trump gave the green light to an arms deal with Taiwan worth around eleven billion dollars, equivalent to approximately 102 billion kronor. However, deliveries have not begun.
China, which does not recognize Taiwan as an independent state, was expected to raise the issue of the arms purchase during the talks between the leaders, according to the New York Times.

Security teams in dispute before summit
Ahead of the meeting between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump at the Heavenly Palace, a dispute arose between Chinese security personnel and the US Secret Service, reports The Hill.
According to the press team on site, entry to the meeting site was delayed by about an hour after an “intense discussion” between Chinese and US officials.
The background is said to have been that a Secret Service agent was denied entry because of his service weapon.
The parties are said to have finally reached a compromise, but what it entailed is unclear.
