The EU's climate service Copernicus is releasing a tool that allows you to see what the weather was like at any given time since 1940.

What were the weather conditions in the English Channel during D-Day 1944? And how strong were the winds when Storm Gudrun swept over Scandinavia? Using the Weather replay service, users can see what the weather was like on Earth down to the hourly level from 1940 to a few days ago.

The visualization is based on extensive weather data and can show, among other things, precipitation, temperature and wind speed. Some notable weather events such as various storms and heat waves are available as quick selections.

The free service can be accessed at weather-replay.climate.copernicus.eu.
