Political situation in the UK

Third and fourth ministers resign in the UK

A third and fourth minister have resigned in protest against Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Reuters reports.

This is Alex Davies-Jones, a deputy minister in the UK's Department of Justice. In a letter to Starmer that she published on X, Davies-Jones writes that Starmer is a "good and honest man" but that the party must respond to the disastrous results of the local elections. In the letter, she asks Starmer to present a time frame for his resignation.

"It is time for bold and radical action," she writes.

Health Minister Zubir Ahmed also announces his resignation in an open letter to the Prime Minister.

Previously, ministers Miatta Fahnbulleh and Jess Phillips have also resigned in order to put pressure on Starmer.

Over 100 Labour MPs want to keep Keir Starmer

Over 100 Labour MPs have signed a letter in support of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, reports The Guardian, among others.

The letter states that it is “not the right time for a conflict over the leadership”.

“Last week we received a devastating election result. It shows that we have hard work ahead of us to win back the trust of the electorate”, it says.

The petition means that there are more Labour MPs who support Starmer than who want him to resign. But it is evenly split between the camps. So far, 88 MPs have signed for the Prime Minister to resign, and 103 for him to stay.

Sources: Starmer Refused to Speak to Possible Challenger

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has reportedly refused to speak to Health Secretary Wes Streeting after today's cabinet meeting, where the Labour leader once again made it clear that he will not resign. Sources tell Sky News.

According to sources to several media outlets, Streeting is preparing to openly challenge Starmer for the leadership.

Starmer is under heavy pressure, including low opinion polls and two disastrous elections in Scotland and Ireland. Around 80 Labour MPs have openly called for his resignation.
