Latvian government falls after prime minister resigns
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina is resigning from her post after the opposition threatened to submit a motion of no confidence.
This means that the Latvian government has fallen, reports the Latvian public service company LSM.
Silina's government coalition has been close to collapse since Sunday when Silina called on the Minister of Defense, Andris Sprūds, to resign.
The background is that two Ukrainian drones, which crossed the Russian border, crashed on Latvian territory on May 7. Silina blamed Sprūds and said Latvia's anti-drone system was not deployed quickly enough to counter the intrusions.
Ukraine accused Russia of diverting the drones from their targets using electronic warfare.
According to Reuters, the Latvian president is to meet with representatives of all parties in parliament on Friday.
