Protester: Seems like just breathing is a threat
About 80 people showed up when Hong Kong residents were allowed to demonstrate for the first time in two years, writes AFP. Many were critical of the harsh restrictions that surrounded the event. Among other things, all participants were forced to wear identification numbers and all placards were inspected in advance.
A protester the news agency spoke to says the whole thing is ridiculous.
- It feels threatening, but what to do? It seems that just trying to breathe fresh air is a threat to national security, says the protester.
Another protester, Theresa Wong, told the AP that the rules feel strange but that you have to adapt because they are part of the "new Hong Kong".
- We have to accept what is considered legal these days, she says.

Hong Kong demonstrated again - under tight control
In Hong Kong, the first demonstration in two years was held on Sunday, several news agencies report. But the demonstration was surrounded by strict rules. Among other things, the number of participants was limited to one hundred people and all demonstrators had to wear a number so that they could be identified.
In 2020, the Beijing government introduced a new tough security law. It, in combination with corona restrictions, has in practice put an end to statements critical of the government.
Sunday's demonstration took place in protest against a planned urban development project.
