The climate threat The water shortage in the world

Tunisia shuts off water at night after years of drought

Tunisia imposes strict restrictions on water use in the country, including by rationing tap water. This is reported by several media.

Between 21 in the evening and 04 in the morning, citizens' taps will be turned off, according to Reuters. One of the reasons for the acute water shortage is the severe drought of the past four years. Mosbah Hlali, head of the state water distributor, says Tunisia has never seen anything like this before.

It is also not permitted to wash cars, water parks and clean streets with drinking water. Anyone who violates the ban risks fines and imprisonment.

Water shortages await over a million South Koreans

The water level in the Dongbok Dam in southern South Korea is less than half of what it usually is this year, and now the authorities are starting to prepare for a crisis. This is reported by CNA.

The country is otherwise one of the countries in the world where water availability is usually considered good, but four months of drought have meant that the two main water reservoirs in Jeolla Province have not been replenished.

As early as June, the provincial capital of Gwangju, home to around 1.4 million inhabitants, may be without access to water. Water is already being transported by trucks to certain islands in the area.
