Biden: Mississippi has my full support - we are praying for you
US President Joe Biden says it is "heartbreaking" that 24 people have died after at least twelve tornadoes ripped through Mississippi, US media reports.
- Jill and I are praying for those who have lost loved ones and for those who have relatives who are still missing, the president said in a statement.
Furthermore, he offers full state support to the disaster-stricken state. According to NBC News, Governor Tate Reeves has declared a state of emergency in the affected area.
"The state of emergency applies until the threat to public safety has ended," he states.
Two dead after explosion at chocolate factory in the US
At least two people have died and five are missing after a violent explosion at a chocolate factory in Pennsylvania on Saturday morning, several media reports. A large search operation has been underway at the site and several people have been found alive in the wreckage.
- It makes us hopeful of being able to find more people, says police chief Wayne Holben to the television channel NBC10 Philadelphia.
Surveillance images from the scene show a violent explosion in the factory where 850 people work. In addition to the injured and dead, seven people have been taken to hospital.
According to the disaster authority's initial report, a gas leak is believed to be behind the explosion.

Warning shots have been fired at a Norwegian ship in Libya
Libya's coast guard has fired warning shots at a Norwegian-owned humanitarian ship, reports VG.
- The coast guard drove in the area around the boat, and shots were fired in the air, says Trym Jacobsen at the shipping company Hoyland Offshore.
The ship is called Ocean Viking and is used by the aid organization SOS Méditerranée Switzerland to carry out humanitarian efforts in the Mediterranean.
SOS Méditerranée has posted a video of the incident on Twitter, and in it a handful of shots can be heard being fired. At the same time, a woman on board the Ocean Viking is trying to get in touch with the coast guard.

Assessors do not agree on where the stock market is headed. Fundstrat's head of analysis Tom Lee believes that the bottom was reached in October and that Wall Street will rise close to 20 percent by the end of the year. He specifically predicts that industrial shares will rise shortly, writes CNBC.
